[ it still feels a little strange to have an actual place to go after he gets off work but here he is. he doesn't go to the safehouse or jyn's closet or the brothel. he goes to a room in an apartment with a bed and his meager belongings but it's still his and that's pretty nice.
tonight when he comes home, he's got beer balanced precariously on a box of pizza that's still hot through the cardboard. his bag is over his shoulder, bumping against his back and he drops the foodstuffs off before he dumps his bag on his bed and takes his shoes off. ]
Hey, I did that without dropping it. Maybe my luck's turning.
[ he'd probably jinxed himself by saying that but oh well. he was having a decent span of days. he drops down on the couch and slouches down, taking a second to be very lazy before bobbi joins him. ]
[ bobbi - well, katelin, really - works long hours at the lab. part of it is knowing that if she puts in the extra hours, she'll be able to maintain her current position, if not rise higher, be trusted and gain access to more facilities - and possibly more gossip at the water cooler. part of it is that she uses the time after hours to run samples for the displaced, too, to figure out as much as she can.
tonight, she's made a point to leave on time. one of her colleagues had asked, "hot date?" and katelin had laughed and winked and said "maybe" and left it at that.
it's not a date. it's just - two adults who kissed under the mistletoe meeting up for pizza and beer and mutually assured cuddling. two adults who now share an apartment. so really, she's just watching a movie with her roommate, isn't she?
anyway.
she's in her room, exchanging workwear for something a little more comfortable when marcos comes in. it takes her only a moment before she's coming from her room, settling down on the couch next to him. ]
[ okay, he could pop a premade pizza into the oven and make sure it didn't burn itself into being inedible but it wasn't going to taste as good when someone else made it. he doesn't move from his slouched, stretched out position for the moment.
[ the quip earns him an eyeroll, but bobbi is still grinning despite it. bad pizza is still pretty damn good most of the time, but she means it - this one smells great. if nothing else, he has good taste in choosing where to get pizza from. ]
Yeah, it was all right. Leaving early was pretty great, too.
[ the rent of this place isn't so expensive that bobbi can't cover more than her third of it if need be for some period of time, but it's definitely easier to afford it with three people. but she isn't really concerned about the money so much as with him settling into a life that's stable. given what he's been through - well, she wants that for him.
she reaches for one of the pizza boxes, pulling it onto her lap and opening it before turning back toward him, balancing the box on her thighs where they can both reach the pizza. ]
[ they don't have the star wars movies here, bobbi checked and never mind that there's actual star wars characters here, those movies weren't out yet at bobbi's canon point ]
[ give her a minute to scroll through the new amsterdam equivalent of netflix before settling on a movie. it's the first part of a trilogy and the trailer had looked good when she'd watched it. something akin to the fast and furious movies.
once that's cued up, she settles a little lower into the couch, curling one leg beneath her body and getting started on the pizza. she hasn't forgotten about the mutually assured cuddling and she - admittedly, she's looking forward to that part.
but it's probably better without pizza involved. ]
[ without the pizza means without the grease so probably a better plan, yeah. when it looks like she's chosen something for them, he stretches out a little more, grabbing his own slice of pizza and balancing it on a plate on his lap. ]

[ and he approves. the smile on his face and the occasional amused laughter that slips out proves that. ]
[ she's confident when it comes to her movie choices, all right. she's confident - but it's nice to have the confirmation. it's nice to feel him lean back against her, to feel him relax.
it's good for him, she figures. he deserves to have an evening of not looking over his shoulders, of just relaxing and losing himself in a stupid movie. it's good for her, too. there's comfort in realising that he knows who she is, that she's been lying, and he still trusts her. (there's trust in the way he relaxes.)
[ doing something so normal, so mundane seemed so out of reach a few weeks ago and now, here he is, sitting on a couch, eating pizza and drinking beer, feeling comfortable with another person.
it's not a cure all for either of them and their respective issues but it's nice to remember that he can have this even in a futuristic hellscape like new amsterdam.

[ this isn't a fix-it-all - it's not a cure for anything, really. it changes nothing about their situation, but it's still good to take some time just to relax, just to be. to do something as utterly ordinary and mundane as have pizza and beer while watching a so-bad-it's-good action flick. ]
I'd like to think it's not. Not much of a career in picking the best bad action movies.
